Social media platforms & us

“Choice is ours, either we can solve it together, or end up in a never-ending mess”

From a month now, news channels and apps bring with itself a wave of saddening updates. The rise in COVID-19 cases, death toll, sinking economy, layoffs, and whatnot. The media is trying its best to keep all of us notified about the ongoing crises, and we cannot blame anyone when they are just putting forth the facts.

All of us being in the lockdown, it is natural to spend unusually long hours on social media. But, are we doing it right?

When we jump from a news app to a social media platform in search of a break from everything that sinks our hearts a little, does that search go in vain? From the past one month, WhatsApp and Facebook have become a breeding ground for fake news, wrong advice, and spreading hate. When this was not enough, last week Instagram was flooded with bash arguments and hate.

Personally, this all was too much to take, and hence I decided to write this blog.

When in a time where we all are locked in our homes, and trying to find relief in social media, it becomes necessary to become a little more careful and kinder while posting on social media platforms. Discussing an issue and finding a solution is one thing. Whereas arguing without any intention of finding a solution is completely different.

In this electronic era, there is always an option to check your facts and then put for a statement. Half information is as good as wrong information.

There are always kinder ways to put up your opinion, gentler ways to explain someone, and humane ways to debate on any subject. If only we would understand that this pandemic is not only a fight against a virus but also a test of how compassionate we all can be when predicament like this dawn upon us. It becomes a priority to keep ourselves sane and help others to stay sane in such an overwhelming environment

There are a million ways to put up your opinion instead of throwing on people’s faces. To speak up and not look down upon others having different opinions than yours. To express your opinion and not call it the only right opinion. Next time when any issue resurfaces, I hope we all understand that our aim is to find the solution and makes this place a better world and not help in aggravating the problem by stemming new problems.

We all are looking for a space that brings positivity and peace to us, and it is us who can create that space. So, let us try to make social platforms a better place to have healthy discussions.
