Conditioning Society Towards Upholding Trans/Queer/Cis Women Leaders

You don’t have to be so tough all the time, you know.” Many of us get this often in different languages, in sighs and heads swaying right to left. At first, it is perplexing to comprehend why anyone would ever choose to let their guard down. Because we always assume that crying is opening up to the world and saying, “come at me, I have nothing to protect me.”

Until we realize how much courage it takes to own up to one’s emotions and not dismiss them. Because emotions are alarm clocks, they will keep ringing until you finally wake up. When one shows that they can also be vulnerable, they communicate to people around them that it is okay to put out your heart and show where it hurts. Our society has conditioned us to see sensitive people as someone who can be deceived, hurt, and swayed. And that is one of the prime reasons that women are regarded unfit for many leadership positions.

For a very long time, I have pondered on this and after some research and gathering views of a group of people. I was able to understand that womxn are systematically excluded from leadership roles.

That was when I decided to write an article. I submitted the same to Feminism in India. Check out the article here.

Let us thank womxn in our life and womxn around the world. The one who taught us to be brave enough to be vulnerable. The one who exhibited that womxn leaders are no less than anyone. Womxn around us have taught us that being sensitive is a good thing and that it makes us more human. When womxn leaders demonstrate to the world that they can lead the organizations and countries towards success; they change the perception of many people towards the effectiveness of womxn leadership. But only a few womxn are not enough, because it still gives out a message that it is an exception, but we need to strive to make it a norm.

So, motivate women to be better leaders; without misleading them towards the constructs and boxes made by society for the so-called ideal-leader. There are no one set of criteria for being the ideal leader; all one needs to be is an idol to the people they lead. Let us acknowledge that womxn have taught us that being more of a human is not a threat but a blessing for the world, making this world a kinder place.
